Distinctive Features

Dana R. Falk, Ph.D.
Licensed Psychologist

  1.   Unconventional appointment hours. I offer treatment at some times outside the traditional business day, to accommodate busy professional, student, and parent schedules. Evening, weekend and early morning appointments are available, and are especially useful for couples seeking therapy. For a look at the times I meet with clients, visit the appointments page. If our schedules are not a match, I can easily refer you to one of my terrific colleagues in Soundview Health Associates, saving you some time.

Free initial phone consultation. A conversation gives us both an opportunity to get an initial sense about whether our working together in individual or couples therapy would make good sense. We’ll discuss what you are seeking and my treatment approach. We’ll also discuss practical matters such as scheduling and billing. Phone (206) 926-3866. This conversation becomes a nice introduction if we should work together, but it’s also a smart time and money-saver if we don’t. If you want to investigate the true nitty-gritty details of my practice, you may even decide to read the disclosure statement on the paperwork page before our phone conversation.

Strong professional preparation. This may sound snooty, but I hope you’ll hear it instead as pragmatic: working with someone truly qualified to understand your needs is vitally important to the quality of the treatment you receive...and it’s tougher to find than you might imagine. There’s no shortage of therapists able to lend emotional support, but relatively few who bring deeper knowledge of adult development. Fewer still bring college teaching, research and he
althcare perspectives to their clinical work. I feel so fortunate to have received superb training and to have had the privilege of training many others in therapy skills as well. If you have some serious things going on in your life, you’re wise to insist on top-notch care.

Inspiring treatment space. I may be biased, but I think the setting for your psychotherapy work certainly matters. This office space is beautiful and comfortable. Your session and waiting area experience will be private. The space is large enough to feel right for an individual or a couple in therapy, and to provide some freedom of choice about where you eat will sit if you’re coming as a couple. The space has real dignity and personality, I think! Good parking conserves your energy for more important things.

Never an increase in your treatment cost. Psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors and other mental health professionals increase their fees for service over time, of course. My clients remain at whatever their treatment cost was when we began working together. This enables clients to remain in therapy until they truly feel done, rather than having to end prematurely because their financial comfort has changed.

Auto-payment option. Clients choose a debit or credit card account to place on file with the office (securely, of course). If you’d like, your appointments may be processed to that account each time, without further paperwork. This enables us to devote the full session to your therapy. Regardless of whether you utilize auto-pay (cash, check and Paypal are also options) you’ll always be offered documentation to submit for reimbursement from insurance.
